Rob Stonewood
Music has been a big part of Rob’s life for as long as he can remember. Having grown up learning the clarinet, piano and saxophone, he went to the University of Manchester to continue his musical studies and here he discovered his love. He joined the Manchester University Barbershop singers after a barbershop quartet performed in his first lecture to advertise the new chorus, and the rest is history! Shortly after he sang with Hallmark of Harmony for the first time, in the inaugural Project Horizon in Southport in 2012. Along with three other coursemates, he was part of Tagline, who would go on to win the British Association of Barbershop Singers Quartet Contest in 2015. They also won a silver medal in the 2018 Barbershop Harmony Society International Varsity Youth Quartet Contest, the first British quartet to win a medal in this competition.
After graduating from university, Rob joined Hallmark as a weekly member from 2014-16, and took on the role of Bass section leader. However his work in Television Production soon took him to London and a job at MTV, and after the 2017 BABS Convention, Rob took a break from singing with Hallmark to focus on his career. He works largely in the live music and events sector, working on award shows like the MTV EMAs, League of Legends World Finals and the BRIT Awards (including singing a sea shanty during a live broadcast with host Jack Whitehall), and concert films such as Cypress Hill and the London Symphony Orchestra and Def Leppard at Bramall Lane.
Tagline continued during this time, and before retiring in 2022 performed at a range of functions, anniversaries and a couple of TV appearances on Britain’s Got More Talent and Don’t Hate The Playaz, both on ITV2.
After a period of travelling, Rob moved to Sheffield in 2024 to live with his wife, Becca, and soon rejoined Hallmark of Harmony, taking on the role of Musical Director shortly after competing with the chorus at BABS for the first time since 2017.
In his spare time, Rob enjoys running, going to concerts and listening to all kinds of music, from classics like Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles to solo saxophone music which would not be out of place on a horror film soundtrack! Rob strongly believes in the importance for music, and especially singing, for everyone. Not only as a creative outlet, but also as a chance to find community, as a solace from the busy nature of everyday life!
